BAD THOUGHTS and its sequel BAD KARMA were originally published by Five Star as hardcovers, and I have them both together in THE SHANNON NOVELS, which is on sale for the next 3 days for $0.99. BAD THOUGHTS was the second novel I wrote and is a grim and explosive mix of horror and crime. Here's what some folks had to say about it:
"Dark, brutal, captivating -- this is one hell of a book, the kind of book that doesn't let go of you once you start it. Dave Zeltserman is clearly the real deal." Steve Hamilton, Edgar-award winner for The Lock Artist
"This fast-paced, gritty psychological tale balances the fine line between mystery and horror" Library Journal
"BAD THOUGHTS is one of those books that has been under the radar all year, yet deserves to be discovered by a wider audience" Bruce Grossman, Bookgasm.com
"Bad Thoughts is an ambitious genre-bender combining the paranoia and existential dread of the best noir with a liberal dash of The Twilight Zone. Not to be missed." --Poisoned Pen's Booknews
In BAD KARMA the action moves from Cambridge MA to Boulder CO, and is a very different kind of book--more of a hardboiled PI novel with some new age sensibilities, although with a very dark, twisty plot underneath. I'd spent five years in Boulder from '78-82, so it's also somewhat of a wistful look of how Boulder has changed since then. The book had the misfortune of coming out a few weeks before PARIAH, so at the time I spent all my efforts promoting PARIAH, which is a shame because this is a fun, hardboiled read that's a bit different than the ordinary. Here's what dome folks had to say about it:
"Detective Bill Shannon is back and a welcome return it is." Booklist, Elliot Swanson
"top-notch P.I. reading" Bookgasm
"This might be a standard PI tale in structure, but it shares the ingenuity which has brought a distinctive touch to so much of Zeltserman’s fiction.... A fascinating read." Tangled Web
"An enjoyable read from the get-go." Jerry House
